Slugs in a Saw-Pit

Public Domain

“Slugs in a Saw-Pit” (circa October 28, 1791), as seen on metmuseum.org, is a blue-and-red duel-colored etching by British artist Thomas Rowlandson and published by S. W. Fores of London. The 12 3/16 × 15 1/8 in. (31 × 38.4 cm) sheet depicts two men at point-blank range in a saw-pit standoff. Rowlandson blends work humor with war caricature to aim his satire at the Georgian-era.

Sawpit Vinyl (Tokyo Hardcore 7)

Sawpit’s 1996 self-titled 7”, as seen on jabjabjab.com, was released jointly by Ebullition and Vernacular and captures the raw urgency of mid-90s Tokyo hardcore. Fusing the melodic desperation of Rites of Spring with the explosive energy of Torches to Rome and Bold, the record swings between frantic tempo shifts, jagged blasts, and downcast emotion, all held together by a ragged, end-of-the-line scream. Long considered their standout work, it remains a gripping snapshot of Sawpit’s intensity and a cult favorite within the hardcore underground.
