Slugs in a Saw-Pit

Public Domain

“Slugs in a Saw-Pit” (circa October 28, 1791), as seen on metmuseum.org, is a blue-and-red duel-colored etching by British artist Thomas Rowlandson and published by S. W. Fores of London. The 12 3/16 × 15 1/8 in. (31 × 38.4 cm) sheet depicts two men at point-blank range in a saw-pit standoff. Rowlandson blends work humor with war caricature to aim his satire at the Georgian-era.
